Google AdSense: What Google AdSense really is.

What Google AdSense really is

I can explain this to you by telling how Google earns money.

Google is basically a search engine. They provide us information for every search term we type in the search bar. But, there’s more. If you do a search in Google, you will be served with search results on the left side of the page. These are called the natural search results.

For some search queries you will also see ‘Sponsored Links’ appear on the right side of the page. Those are not natural search results, but advertisements, called Adwords.

Adwords ads are used by companies and anyone who sells or offers a service or products. The advertizers have the ability to choose where the ads appear. They can choose to display the ads on the Google search page only, OR also on the pages of Google search partners. This is the ‘Google Adwords Search Network’.

Google Adwords advertisers also have the ability to display ads on other people’s websites. This way they use the ‘Content Network’ to sell their services and products.

If you are the publisher of a website or a blog and you choose to display Google AdSense ads, you are in fact showing the ads of advertizers that choose to use the ‘Content Network’ of Google Adwords.

And this is the way that the Google company earns money. After providing a free service, the search engine, and displaying relevant results , they have created an advertising opportunity for companies. Advertizers pay only when somebody clicks on their ads. This form of advertizing is called PPC or Pay-per-click.

So, basically Google Adwords ads displayed on the ‘Content Network’ are the same as Google AdSense ads.

Now, when a visitor to your website clicks on one of the AdSense ads, the advertizer will pay a certain amount of money for the click and Google will pay the publisher of the website a percentage of this amount. Nobody knows exactly how much that percentage is, Google has never revealed this…
